Foundation Scholarships-Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to complete the FAFSA if I’m applying for scholarships? Yes, the foundation requires completion of the and any resulting action by you, including the submission of all necessary documentation to the Financial Aid office prior to the deadline. Click here to learn more about Financial Aid.
  • Will I need to submit information for references on the application? Yes. Be prepared to submit the names and email addresses of two people (not related to you) who would be willing to provide a reference. It is crucial that you inform your references that they will be receiving a reference request at the email you provided in the application.
  • Do I need to reapply each term? No, you can select fall, spring, and summer when completing the general application. Prior to each term selected, your application will be reviewed for a potential award.
  • Can I apply for a scholarship if I’m only taking one 3 credit course? It depends on the semester. Fall and Spring terms require at least 6 credits. Summer only requires 3 credits.
  • Can my scholarship be used at other colleges? No. Foundation scholarships are only for use for classes taken at Â鶹AV and are not transferable.
  • Do I receive a refund of unused scholarships? No, but for most scholarships, any unused portion will carry over to the next semester and will remain on your student account until you either graduate or fail to enroll in one semester. If you were awarded Pacer Promise, the unused award will NOT carry over to the next term.
  • I’m receiving a Pell Grant. Can I still apply for a scholarship? It depends on your need. Most Foundation scholarships are last dollar and will only pay if you still have a balance remaining after other grants/awards have been applied. Compare your award for the semester with the anticipated cost for the semester and only apply if you have unmet need.
  • How do I know if I have already submitted a foundation scholarship application? Sign into the portal at piedmontcc.academicworks.com. If there is a checkmark beside the words General Application, that means you have a general application on file.
  • How do I know if I have already applied for a certain term? Sign into the portal and review your application. The first question is about the terms you are applying for. You can edit your answer if needed and update your application.
  • I don’t know if my references were submitted. How can I check? Sign into the portal. At the top, it will mention references and show if both have been submitted. If both have not been submitted, click on the link and it will show you which one has not submitted. Also, the student is emailed each time a reference is submitted.
  • How will I be notified if I am selected for a scholarship? Please monitor your student email for scholarship information.
  • I applied for a scholarship weeks ago, but I haven’t heard anything. What should I do? A delay in receiving a notification can be for a number of reasons. Sign into the portal and ensure the references have been submitted. Check self service to ensure you don’t have other aid that will cover you, as that may be why an award was not made. Make sure you actually submitted the application, and it is not in “draft” status. Ensure you meet the minimum qualifications.
  • Can I complete a scholarship application if the deadline has passed? Each semester has a scholarship application deadline. The application closes temporarily after each deadline to allow time for awarding for the semester. Once awarding is complete, the application will re-open. Completed applications and references must be received by the deadline to be considered for awards for that semester. If the application deadline for the semester you are seeking funding for has passed, you will not be able to apply for funding for that semester. Once the application re-opens, you may apply for other semesters. Be advised you must set up a payment plan, so you do not lose your class schedule due to non-payment.
