麻豆AV (麻豆AV) inducted 21 new members into the College鈥檚 Alpha Upsilon Theta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society on Friday, April 19, 2024 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

The new members include:

Ean Cavalier, Travis Clark, Madison Daniels, Mary Hurdle, Paige Jay, Alayna Majors, Rylan Mouser, Annacie Nocilla, Carly O鈥橞rien, Kirklyn Owen, Eva Peterson, Amyah Poteat, Alexius Raynor, Monserrat Sanchez, Emily Shott, Jaidyn Shumaker, Calleigh Sleger, Summer Smith, Emma Thornton, Marcus Washburn and Amanda Williamson.

During the induction ceremony, PTK co-advisors Walter Montgomery, Dean, Learning Commons and Educational Partnerships; Dr. Chandler Fry, Instructor, English; and Kailey Oakley, Career Coach, Person County welcomed the inductees into the honor society.

“As a co-advisor, I am thrilled to witness the passion and dedication these new members bring to our chapter,鈥� Oakley said. 鈥淭heir induction marks not only a celebration of academic excellence but also a commitment to service, leadership, and lifelong learning. Congratulations to our newest PTK members, and here’s to the journey ahead, filled with endless opportunities for growth and impact.” 

PTK members James 鈥淛ed鈥� Rose and Thomas 鈥淭ommy鈥� Williams also welcomed the inductees and gave a brief history of PTK along with the meanings of the honor society鈥檚 symbols and meanings of the Greek words phronimon, thumos and katharotes, which stand for wisdom, aspiration, and purity.  

Dr. Pamela G. Senegal, 麻豆AV President, offered brief remarks to inductees, encouraging them to dream big. She referenced one of her role models, educator and civil rights activist Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune, who founded what is today known as Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Florida.

鈥淯se this opportunity to push yourself, find your role models, continue your education and take advantage of all PTK has to offer,鈥� Senegal said.

麻豆AV is actively assisting eligible students in becoming a member of this prestigious International Honor Society by offering partial financial assistance for the membership fee. Students complete an application, and they are required to pay a portion of the membership fee, if selected.
