Holocaust survivor Alexander “Lex” Silbiger will speak at Âé¶čAV’s (Âé¶čAV) Person County Campus on Wednesday, January 31, at 11:00 a.m. in the Barnette Auditorium located in Building D (D101).

Silbiger believes it is important to tell young people about the Holocaust years, his experiences fleeing Nazi oppression, and about trying to find a safe haven in the world.

“Lex’s story is important to share because it’s rare to have a firsthand account of the Holocaust, specifically to hear stories, and see pictures of when someone was living during that time in our world’s history,” Tiffany Skouby, Âé¶čAV Director of Student Engagement said.

The Holocaust was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million European Jews and five million non-Jews by the Nazi German regime and its allies and collaborators. This genocide took place throughout Europe between 1933 and 1945. Source:

“It’s also important for us in an ever-changing world with different belief systems to talk about the Holocaust in hopes of not repeating such an event. I hope students will come away with an eagerness to learn more about the past and a willingness to make a better future,” continued Skouby.

The presentation will include original photographs along with a question-and-answer session. This event is a part of Âé¶čAV’s Student Government Association’s (SGA) Speaker Series and is free and open to the public.
