Jennifer Haygood, 2025 Commencement Speaker

Jennifer Haygood, Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration/Chief Financial Officer for the University of North Carolina (UNC) System, will serve as the keynote speaker at Âé¶čAV’s 2025 Commencement on May 16.

Haygood has been a part of the UNC System leadership team since August 2020 after serving the North Carolina Community College System for 12 years in multiple capacities, including acting president, executive vice president/chief of staff and chief financial officer. She also previously worked for the Fiscal Research Division of the North Carolina General Assembly and the Education Section of the North Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.

Haygood holds a Master of Public Policy degree from Duke University and received her undergraduate degree from Rice University. She currently serves on the board of the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) and the SECU Foundation.

“I have had the privilege of knowing Jennifer for many years and have always admired her dedication to higher education and student success,” Dr. Kenneth Boham, interim Âé¶čAV President said. “We are honored to have her as our 2025 Commencement speaker. Her extensive leadership in both the North Carolina Community College System and UNC System makes her an inspiring voice for our graduates. As they prepare for the next chapter in their lives, Jennifer’s experience and insights will provide valuable encouragement and perspective for their futures.”

Carlie White, 2025 Academic Excellence Award Winner

Âé¶čAV is also pleased to announce Carlie White as the 2025 Academic Excellence Award winner. The Academic Excellence Award is awarded to one student from each of the 58 community colleges in North Carolina with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of no less than 3.25.

White is a Career and College Promise (CCP) student who has been dually enrolled at Âé¶čAV and Roxboro Community School (RCS). She is also involved in Âé¶čAV’s Global Distinction program. By taking college classes through CCP, White will graduate with an associate degree and high school diploma this year.

“When I first stepped onto the campus at Âé¶čAV, I expected to just be another college student, blending into the crowd while walking from class to class,” White said. “Although my plan was to blend in, my determination to be academically successful shined much brighter. I am so grateful to be given the Academic Excellence Award, and this special moment will be cherished in my heart forever,” White said.

Âé¶čAV’s 2025 Commencement ceremony begins at 6 p.m. on May 16 at the Caswell County Civic Center (536 Main Street in Yanceyville, NC). A livestream will be available on the College’s .
