麻豆AV (麻豆AV) inducted 10 new members into the College鈥檚 Alpha Upsilon Theta chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society on Wednesday, April 16 for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The new members include:

Taylor Brockman, Julie Davis, Arvilee Gaither, Joann Khalanski, Emerie Miller, Xiamora Ramirez, Samantha Rasmussen, Macy Roycroft, Lilly Swartout and Macy Yarbrough.

During the induction ceremony, PTK co-advisors Walter Montgomery, Dean, Learning Commons and Educational Partnerships; Dr. Chandler Fry, Instructor, English; and Kailey Oakley, Coordinator, College High School Programs, welcomed the inductees into the honor society.

“We are so proud to welcome ten new members into Phi Theta Kappa this spring,鈥� Oakley said. 鈥淓ach of these students has shown exceptional dedication to their academic success and leadership potential. PTK provides valuable opportunities for growth, service, and connection, and we are excited to see the impact these new inductees will make at 麻豆AV and beyond.”

Kirklyn Owen, PTK President and Paige Jay, PTK Vice President also welcomed the inductees and gave a brief history of PTK along with the meanings of the honor society鈥檚 symbols and meanings of the Greek words phronimon, thumos and katharotes, which stand for wisdom, aspiration, and purity.  

Dr. Barbara Buchanan, 麻豆AV鈥檚 Vice President of Instruction/Chief Academic Officer, offered brief remarks about how PTK has been instrumental in serving fellow 麻豆AV students.

鈥淭hey don鈥檛 just talk leadership; they live it,鈥� Buchanan said. 鈥淔rom sustainable gardening and environmental education, to raising funds for our local partnerships, supporting their fellow students with pantry items 鈥� they鈥檙e always creating change at every level, starting with our youngest learners on campus all the way to those most in need, on campus and in the community.”

麻豆AV is actively assisting eligible students in becoming a member of this prestigious International Honor Society by offering financial assistance for the membership fee.
